Modeling Mahalalel

Sorry for being gone for so long…I will get back to regular posting.

Without further adieu, I would love to pose a simple question: Are you modeling Mahalalel?

Think of all the Bible stories you heard when you were a kid.  Think of any Bible studies you have done in recent years.  I am sure you remember stories and studies on David, Abraham, Moses, Peter, Paul, and a score of others.  However, how many of you have ever actually heard a story or been a part of a Bible study over Mahalalel?  Tucked into a few verses in Genesis chapter 5 is the story (or lack thereof) of a man named Mahalalel.  We know he lived for 895 years.  We know he had a kid named Jared.  And, well…that is it.

Does his story seem to lack significance?  Now, I know that all of Scripture is profitable, and I understand that Mahalalel is an important part of a lineage, but I think there is something else that we should think about concerning him.  Does anyone else just feel a little sorry for the guy?

I may be reading between the lines, but I think it is sad and the tragedy of a wasted life to live for over 800 years and do have done nothing significant enough to be recorded by Moses in Genesis.  I think it would be safe to say that Mahalalel played it safe.

Take a second to look at your life.  Are you playing it safe, just trying to get by?  Are you a Mahalalel in the making?  If someone was going to teach a Bible Study lesson, is there anything that you have done in your life that would be worth using as an example?

Quit playing it safe and modeling Mahalalel.  Step out in faith and do something worth writing about!
